"American Gods" by Neil Gaiman

Days before his release from prison, Shadow's wife, Laura, dies in a mysterious car crash. Numbly, he makes his way back home. On the plane, he encounters the enigmatic Mr Wednesday, who claims to be a refugee from a distant war, a former god and the king of America.

Together they embark on a profoundly strange journey across the heart of the USA, whilst all around them a storm of preternatural and epic proportions threatens to break.

Scary, gripping and deeply unsettling, AMERICAN GODS takes a long, hard look into the soul of America. You'll be surprised by what and who it finds there...

2001. First in a series - next book is "Anansi Boys" but this one is effectively a stand-alone as next book has some same characters but new plot. Anansi Boys not on your kindle so just ask if you want it!
You also have "Neverwhere" by Neil Gaiman, and I have many more if you want more by him.
Award-winner - including the Hugo award, the Locus award, *and* the Nebula award - hich is like winning an Oscar, a Bafta and a Golden Globe, but in book form.
Obviously I have read this just a few times! - it's my favourite novel by him (he also writes comics) - and is one of the ones I took to get signed when I met him. It's easily in my top ten favourite books.
Genres: Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Mythology, Horror, Sci-Fi, contemporary.
